Patient Entertainment | November 2015 | Public Sector
Specialising in Neurosciences, Transplants and Orthopaedics, North Bristol NHS Trust is at the forefront of medical knowledge with it’s pioneering treatments and advances in care. Committed to delivering excellence in healthcare across the South West region, it is one of the largest hospital trusts in the UK.
Funded by Southmead Hospital Charity, the patient entertainment initiative was introduced to assist in shortening patient recovery periods and to improve patient satisfaction during their stay at Southmead Hospital; benefiting both the patient and the Trust. Requiring a solution that was suitable for safe chemical disinfecting, we rose to the challenge to supply and install a large number of televisions across the hospital to fulfil the invaluable initiative.
TENav designed a unique patient entertainment system based on a modified IPTV solution and nearly 1000 commercial TV screens. The solution leveraged existing infrastructure and so kept the Trust within budget and time constraints.
The final solution allows the Trust to administer the TV channels (ensuring inappropriate content is not available) and provides a platform to broadcast general messages to patients including access to information like this week’s menu. Giving patients the use of free television during their stay at Southmead Hospital has proven a successful and well-received initiative; and the Trust has received excellent feedback from both patients and staff.
