High Definition Video Conferencing
Since the introduction of desktop video conferencing equipment in the early ‘90s there have been a number of advancements in the technology including the emergence of Telepresence video conferencing systems in 1994 and set-top systems in 1997. However, none have produced such a fundamental improvement in the user experience as the introduction of high definition video communications with superior video and audio reproduction.
Although video quality has improved from QCIF (Quarter Common Intermediate Format) to CIF, then to 4CIF, the effect on video resolution produced by high definition video conferencing systems is outstanding
.
High Definition video conferencing allows optimal viewing distance to match the size limitations of most conference rooms – for a 42” LCD or plasma screen the optimal viewing distance for high definition resolution is 8 feet.
Of course it is not just the video quality that improves radically with high definition video conferencing units, they also produce Wideband Audio which gives a more natural and realistic experience to the user.
