Mobile Video Conferencing
It was always a natural assumption that video conferencing solutions would evolve from being purely room-based systems tied to a single geographical location, to integrate personal communication devices that were flexible enough to operate in any environment. The major limiter to this happening was the cost of dedicated equipment, such as The Motion Media MM225 shown here.
This all changed with the advent of smart phones and Tablet PCs capable of running a video conferencing client with all of the required hardware inbuilt as standard. The latest projection is that there will be 1 billion smart phones and 300 million tablets in use by 2015 (source Frost and Sullivan). This in turn has led to some niche providers such as Mirial developing high definition mobile video conferencing clients which can be deployed on android or iPad/iPhone devices. Now that Mirial has been acquired by Logitech, the owners of LifeSize communications, users can experience a fully integrated package of high-definition video communications which encompass both room base and mobile video conferencing platforms.
